What Are the Colors of a Three Wire Computer Fan

  • #1
Hello!
I take over recently bought a 120 mm fan in bulk from segotep, nothing adorned, to make a soldering fume extractor. Information technology has a 3 pin connector and a 4 pin arranger but all the wires are black, one having white-hot stripe connected it. Could anyone tell me which is which or help oneself me find a way to find that out myself ?
Thanks in advance!

That pinout link helps. Pay special tending to how the connector is minded when you look at information technology. Note in the drawing that the holes are lining you, and the BOTTOM of the connector has ii ridges running on it - you can just watch the straw man tips of those ridges.

BIG OOPS! That first drawing shows the wire colours as Yellow on Pin #2 in the middle, and Cerise on Pin #3 on the nearer edge. Those two colors are Backward! You can see the correct colour arrangement in the adjacent drawing down that shows a 3-pin egg-producing connective plugging into a antheral header. Along a regular 3-stick female connector, the Unfortunate product line connected one edge in is power supply Anchor, the RED line in the MIDDLE is power supply +VDC (12 VDC for egg-filled hotfoot) and the YELLOW happening the other butt against is the sports fan motor's speed signal being sent back to the mobo header. If you are making a custom fan box, ignore the one that should constitute Yellow - merely tape IT up and do non make whatever connection to it. The speed signal is never used for speed control of such a fan. Dominance is exclusively aside changing the fan supply voltage from 12 for full speed lowered to about 5 or 6 - less can causa the lover to stall.

That pinout link helps. Pay special attention to how the connection is oriented when you expect at it. Note in the drawing that the holes are facing you, and the Butt of the connector has two ridges running on it - you buns just see the front tips of those ridges.

BIG OOPS! That prototypal drawing shows the wire colours A Yellow on Pin #2 in the middle, and Red on Pin #3 on the nearer edge. Those two colours are Transposed! You can see the even out colour arrangement in the next lottery down that shows a 3-pin young-bearing connector plugging into a manful header. On a standard 3-pin female connector, the BLACK line connected one edge is king supply Ground, the RED line midmost is superpowe supply +VDC (12 VDC for full swiftness) and the Lily-livered along the separate edge is the fan motor's speeding signal being sent back to the mobo header. If you are making a custom fan boxful, ignore the uncomparable that should follow Yellow - hardly tape measure it up and do not make any connexion to that. The rush signalise is never victimised for speed control of so much a fan. Control is solely by changing the fan supply voltage from 12 for full speed low-spirited to or so 5 surgery 6 - less can get the fan to stall.
